Farewell, Folsom Street
July 03, 2012

On Sunday I moved out of my cherished apartment in the Mission, which I shared with two roommates. It was the first placed I lived in San Francisco, aside from a creepy subletting experience in Hayes Valley I prefer to forget about. I’ve been at that address for almost two years and actually seen the neighborhood slowly change (and yes, I do mean become more gentrified) before my eyes.
I’ll miss the friendly baristas at the 24th street Philz Coffee and my ritual hangover bagel. I’ll have to find new hangover food. I’ll also miss the ridiculous art deco-esque light fixtures in the apartment, which served to both impress and perplex people at the same time.
I’d say it took about six months to fully decorate my old apartment, and I did amass quite the print collection which I have sadly left behind due to the more limited wall space in my new place. Most of the furniture in the apartment was predictably from IKEA (actually now that I think about it most of it was second-hand IKEA…) Still, their very basic and geometric aesthetic worked well with the boxy layout of the apartment.
